Updated: February 1, 2021 / First publication: June 1, 2020 Confessed by the yogurt hall in the grocery store? Me too, so I have prepared a list of the best yogurts for infants and young children — those who are low in added sugars but still know very well!. More: The most yummiest forms of natural flavor of the smooth yogurt. Yogurt for babiesYogurt is a great food for young children as it is full of nutrients that need to include proteins, calcium and probiotics. It is also easy to eat and easy to customize, so it is a perfect food for almost any meal of the day. What kind of yogurt should I give my baby? The best baby yogurt is actually quite straight forward. This is what to look for: TIP: There is a wide range of yoghurt flavors and consistency, so if your baby or child doesn't like one you try, consider buying a different brand next time and see if it's better. Whole Milk Yogurt Babies and young children need fat for proper brain development, so it's important to choose yogurt (and other dairy products) made with whole milk. Yogurt will be labeled as "full yoghurt" or 4% or 5% yoghurt, so take into account when choosing yogurt for your baby and small child. There is also a wide variety of smooth whole yoghurt flavor profiles, so you may need to try some to find the one you and your baby as best. I prefer and the European-style yogurt of Trader Joes in the red and white cartons. I also love the upper part of the cream, just stir the cream in the yogurt so there is thickness and fat in everything. When can a baby eat yogurt? A baby can eat at 6 months, or when solid food starts. Follow the same advice when it comes to this food like others and know that while cow's milk is too difficult for a baby to digest, yogurt is often much easier in the mummy. It also has beneficial probiotics, which are healthy for the immune system and the digestive tract. Greek yogurt for babies If you want to serve the Greek yogurt to your baby or small child, it is an option. There are some things to take into account. First, it can be a little harder to digest (all that protein!), so start with a small portion to see how your child does it with it. It also has a much thicker texture that may or may not be a success with your child, although it may also be easier to eat with a spoon as it will be less likely to slip immediately. And again, look for a full version of milk (often labeled 4%) to make sure your child is getting the fats they need. There are a variety of flavors in the Greek yogurt as well, so try some to find one that your family enjoys. Fruit yogurt for babies While there is an entire market of yogurts flavored by fruit for babies and young children, I still prefer to rely mostly on the simple class to control the amounts of added sugars. That said, they are good choices too: TIP: You can also make your own. It's so easy! The best yogurt for young children The best yogurt for young children is the same as the best yogurt for babies, burns the whole milk yogurt. It has all the same benefits and is easy to customize for your child. Although of course you feel free to add fruit flavor, walnut butter, honey, maple syrup and more. Look down! TIP: You can also make it a fun twist in the ingredient! How Flavor Plain Yogurt I love to buy whole milk yoghurt and add flavor to it myself, as well as simply serving yogurt plain. Here are a few dips we like: TIP: Try some small portions of yogurt with these mixtures to see what your kids like! Displace for details on portions and quantities to mix. When can you eat yogurt with a spoon? Learning to take meals in small mouths is definitely a learning process, so don't worry if your two-year-old still makes a mess when they eat with a spoon. The most important thing is that you have the opportunity to practice your spoon skills, so offer it and understand that you can still use your hands... as it is often a more effective method! TIP: I love to offer yogurt on a (shown above) sometimes and in bowls on other occasions. Both are great ways to serve yogurt to babies and young children. What's the best yogurt not dairy? There are so many good ones now! I urge you to look in your supermarkets to see what's available. There are yogurts not dairy made of soy, almond milk, and goat milk so you will have to try some to see which have the best flavor. You may also want to try a lactose-free yoghurt. Nutritionally, I still recommend looking for brands that use less added sugars and find one with proteins, the amounts will vary a lot. People love the newest options and Siggis plant-based yogurts, which are now widely available. Do you have any additional questions about yogurt? I've been successful in serving it in a simple way, or adding banana puree for flavor, or even mixing oats with any flavor that comes with greater weight before bed. Amy Palanjian sounds delicious!
